Information we collect

We may collect the following categories of personal information.

Enrollment and family information

This may include a student's name, age, grade or school level, school setting, interests, goals, areas they want to explore, parent or guardian name, email address, telephone number, enrollment preferences, and responses submitted through Start with Yonder or other intake processes.

Account and profile information

When a student or parent creates an account, we may collect login information, account identifiers, profile information, preferences, and account settings.

Student-created content

Yonder Plan may contain information a student creates or saves, including Sparks they follow, Explorations, projects, project steps, plans, schedules, reflections, goals, notes, Journey content, uploaded materials, responses, and other work.

Coach and Class information

We may collect information related to coaching sessions and classes, including scheduling information, attendance, participation, questions, projects, discussions, feedback, and other content generated during the experience.

Audio and video recordings

Yonder records Yonder Coach sessions and Yonder Class meetings. Recordings may contain a participant's name, image, voice, chat messages, screen sharing, student work, discussion contributions, and other information communicated during the session.

Payment and transaction information

We collect information about purchases, subscriptions, billing status and transactions. Payment-card information may be processed directly by our payment processor. We do not need to store complete payment-card numbers ourselves to provide our services.

Communications

We may retain emails, support requests, feedback, survey responses, safety concerns and other communications with Yonder.

Technical and usage information

When you use our websites or applications, we and our service providers may automatically receive information such as IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring page, pages visited, timestamps, application activity, session information and diagnostic data.

Referral and attribution information

We may collect information such as referral source, campaign parameters and similar information so we can understand how people find Yonder.

Safety and incident information

If a safety, conduct or other concern is reported, we may collect information reasonably necessary to review, document and respond to it.

How we use personal information

We ask families not to provide highly sensitive information that is unnecessary for participating in Yonder.

We may use personal information to provide and operate Yonder; create and maintain accounts; personalize the student’s experience; support projects, exploration and planning; schedule and conduct Coach sessions and Classes; communicate with students and parents; provide parents with appropriate visibility into their teen’s participation; process purchases and subscriptions; provide customer support; maintain safety and professional boundaries; review concerns or incidents; protect the security and integrity of our services; troubleshoot and improve Yonder; understand product usage; comply with legal obligations; enforce our agreements; prevent fraud or misuse; and protect the rights, safety and property of Yonder, our users and others.

We may also create aggregated or deidentified information that does not reasonably identify an individual and use that information to understand and improve our services.

Recordings and session content

All Yonder Coach sessions and Yonder Class meetings are recorded.

Recordings are part of Yonder's safety, accountability and service-delivery practices. We may use them to provide the service, allow authorized family access, review the quality of Yonder experiences, respond to concerns, investigate reported conduct, resolve disputes, train or supervise Yonder personnel, protect participants, and comply with legal obligations.

A student and the student's parent or legal guardian may have access to recordings associated with that student's participation.

Because Yonder Class is a group experience, a Class recording may include the names, images, voices, chat messages, work and contributions of multiple students. Recordings of a Class may therefore be accessible to other enrolled students in that cohort and their parents or legal guardians.

Yonder does not use identifiable Coach or Class recordings in advertising, public marketing, testimonials or social media without separate permission.

Participants may not copy, download, repost, publish, distribute, livestream or otherwise share recordings or another participant’s image, voice, work or personal information except as expressly permitted by Yonder.

Teen and parent privacy

Yonder is designed for teenagers ages 13 through 18 and their parents or legal guardians.

Our services are not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

For users under 18, a parent or legal guardian must participate in enrollment and serve as the family contact. A parent or legal guardian may exercise applicable privacy rights on behalf of a minor where permitted by law.

Yonder is designed to give teenagers meaningful ownership without creating a confidential relationship between Yonder and the student.

Parents or legal guardians may receive information regarding their minor student's participation and may have access to session or Class recordings and other information made available through Yonder.

Yonder Coach is not therapy, counseling or another relationship in which communications are promised to remain confidential from a student's parent or legal guardian.

How we share personal information

We may disclose personal information to service providers that help us operate Yonder, including providers of website hosting, cloud infrastructure, authentication, analytics, customer relationship management, scheduling, email, payment processing, video conferencing, recording storage, communications, security and customer support.

We may disclose information to the student’s parent or legal guardian as described in this Policy.

For group Classes, information a student chooses to share during the Class may naturally be visible or audible to other participating students and facilitators. Class recordings may also be made available to authorized members of that cohort as described above.

We may disclose information to professional advisers, insurers, auditors, accountants or attorneys when reasonably necessary.

We may disclose information if we reasonably believe doing so is necessary to comply with law or legal process; respond to a lawful government request; investigate fraud, abuse or a safety concern; enforce our agreements; protect a person from harm; or protect the rights, property or safety of Yonder, our users or others.

If Yonder or its business is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets or similar transaction, information may be transferred as part of that transaction subject to applicable law.

We may also disclose information when you or, where appropriate, a parent or legal guardian directs or consents to the disclosure.

Sales, targeted advertising and automated decisions

We do not sell personal information for monetary consideration.

We do not use personal information from students for cross-context behavioral or targeted advertising.

We do not profile students to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

If our practices change in a manner that would require additional notice, consent or opt-out rights under applicable law, we will provide those protections before beginning the new processing.

Cookies and similar technologies

We and our service providers may use cookies, local storage and similar technologies that are reasonably necessary to operate the site, maintain sessions, remember preferences, understand site usage, measure performance, prevent abuse and improve our services.

We do not authorize these technologies to use student personal information for third-party targeted advertising.

Browser settings may allow you to block or delete certain cookies, although doing so may affect the operation of some Yonder features.

Data retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including providing our services, maintaining safety records, resolving disputes, enforcing agreements, complying with legal obligations and maintaining appropriate business records.

If information must be retained longer because of litigation, a safety investigation, a legal hold, fraud prevention or another legal requirement, we may retain it for the period reasonably necessary for that purpose.

When information is no longer required, we may delete, anonymize or deidentify it.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, destruction, loss, alteration or disclosure.

No online service or storage system can guarantee absolute security. Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their login credentials and should notify us promptly if they believe an account has been compromised.

Privacy rights and requests

Depending on where you live and applicable law, you may have the right to request confirmation that we process your personal information; access personal information; correct inaccurate information; delete information; obtain certain information in portable form; obtain information regarding third parties to which information has been disclosed; and opt out of certain forms of sale, targeted advertising or qualifying automated profiling.

Yonder does not currently sell personal information, use student information for targeted advertising or conduct qualifying automated profiling.

A parent or legal guardian may submit an appropriate request on behalf of a minor student.

Requests may be submitted to [email protected] with the subject line Privacy Request.

We may take reasonable steps to verify the identity and authority of the person making the request. We will respond within the period required by applicable law. Where applicable, if we deny a privacy request, you may appeal by replying to our decision and stating that you wish to appeal.

You will not be discriminated against for exercising applicable privacy rights.

Third-party services

Yonder may link to or integrate with services operated by other companies.

Those companies may process information under their own terms and privacy policies. Yonder is not responsible for the independent privacy practices of third-party services that are not acting as our service providers.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this Policy and provide additional notice where required by law.

If a material change requires consent under applicable law, we will obtain that consent before applying the change to affected information.
